Achievements Of The College After UGC Autonomy

Experience of the college as an Autonomous Institution

  • Curriculum development
    The autonomy has facilitated the college to achieve its objectives by redesigning the courses to cater the needs of students. For the development of curriculum, subject-wise BOS are constituted by the college as per the guidelines of UGC. The subject-wise course curricula are developed by BOS based on the needs of the learners and local needs for the students. The existing curricula are reviewed annually at each academic session and courses are updated to incorporate the required changes. Thereafter it is passed by Academic Council and approved by the Governing body of the college at last. The college runs the Honors courses in Physics, Botany, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Computer science and Information technology. The college offers courses like BCA and PGDCA in the form of self financial course. At the UG level Biotechnology, Microbiology, Computer science and information technology are offered to enrich addition to the curricula. The college has adopted CBCS and is the first and only one college of the state. To develop and enhancing the skill of the students, Skill Based Courses are developed as one paper under sixth semester at UG level. This college is also registered under skill development scheme of state government (MMKVY). At PG level indoor/outdoor projects are introduced as a part of curricula to increase the interest of students towards their subjects which helps in developing interest towards research in their respective subjects.

  • Teaching and Learning

    • Admission

      The entire admission procedure is governed by admission committees, which are formed department wise for PG and subject group-wise for UG. In present session 2018-19, admission in PG courses are done online through Aatal Bihari Vajpai Vishvavidhyalaya, Bilaspur. Online admission through our own website has been proposed from the next session 2019-20 for all UG and PG courses.

      For admission in Ph. D. programme, the parent university conducts common entrance test s per UGC regulations; the selected candidates are referred to research centers. The DRC of the college conducts personal interview with power point presentation. All reservation rules laid down by state government are strictly followed.

    • Induction Program

      The induction programme is conducted after the admission process for the first semester of UG and PG students, so that they can understand the semester system, CBSC, skill based courses, internal tests/assignment/seminar system and examination system.

    • Teaching and Learning Process

      The details of academic calendar showing the academic activities of the session are provided by the department of higher education of state government/ university is displayed to the students through the notice board. The time-table of classes is prepared by college committee and lesson plan in a subject/paper/unit is prepared by every faculty at the beginning of each session. The daily progress is also maintained in the form of teaching diary and verified by the head of the department and then by the principal. The teaching process comprises of: Class Room Learning, Power Point Presentation, Assignments, Seminars, Web based resources, Guest lectures and Visit to different laboratories.

      A copy of syllabus is maintained for students by each department. Outline of the course schedule and topics to be taught by the teacher, is provided to the student prior to the commencement of classes. Students are evaluated regularly through internal tests, assignments and seminars.

      Learning is made more student-centric by encouraging them to prepare a detailed note/report on their seminar/ project topics and discuss their seminar topics/ project reports through power point presentation under the supervision of faculty members. Besides, workshops, group discussions, field study, participation in quiz, Poster and Model Presentation, participation in extension activities, etc are also included in the academic practices. As the students are predominantly from Hindi medium schools, the English Language Lab of the college helps to build and enhance the communication/writing skills of the students and also helps them to understand difficult concepts of science subjects. The college has a rich, well equipped and automated library with INFLIBNET and internet facilities. Different departments have their own departmental libraries for PG students.

  • Examination System
    Details of various courses, syllabus, examination pattern and examination process are provided to the students at the time of admission through admission brochure and respective departments. The dates of unit tests/assignment and seminars are declared well before through notice. The dates of semester examinations are declared at least one month before the commencement of the examination. The outline of examination system is given below.

    • Notification of Examination committee (subject-wise), Result committee and UFM committee.

    • Declaration of dates of internal tests and seminars/assignments.

    • Acquiring the panel of examiners from departments for paper setting and practical exams.

    • Declaration of dates (Exam time-table) of semester examinations.

    • Appointing the paper setter and practical examiner by the principal by selecting one name from the panel.

    • Assigning the paper setting.

    • Receiving the manuscript and moderating if necessary.

    • Sending the manuscript to the printer and receiving it back.

    • Appointing the examination superintendent and other officials.

    • Smooth conduction of examination.

    • Receiving of foil/counterfoils of from examiners/departments (for internal/assignments/seminars).

    • Preparation of results.

    • Approval of result by result committee.

    • Preparation of Mark-sheets.

    • Sending the TR and Mark-sheets for counter sign to Bilaspur university.

    • Declaration of result.

    • Distribution of mark-sheets.

  • Post-result Transparency System
    In order to make our examination system transparent, a meeting of academic council was held in 3rd and 12th Mach 2016 and a decision was taken to show the answer books to those students who are not satisfied by their marks in particular paper/papers. A code of rules regarding showing the answer books, issuing photocopy of the answer books and challenged valuation was framed by the examination cell was approved by academic council and passed in the meeting of governing body of the college held in 10th May 2106. The code of rules is attached in separate sheet.(Annexure – 17)

  • Examination Reforms
    Examination reforms are done by general discussion and common opinion in the meetingof stakeholders, alumni and academicians. Thereafter IQAC brings this matter in front of academic council. After the approval it is passed by the governing body of the college.

  • Credit System
    The college has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). There are 5 credits for each paper and a total of 120 credits in B. Sc. Semester system; where as a total of 140 credits in B. Sc. Honors course. The final credits are given after passing all the six semester examination.

  • Grading System
    The Grade, Percentage and Division are awarded to the examinee of undergraduate program according to the table given below only if a candidate cleared all the six semester examinations of the program.

  • Infrastructure
    This college has a campus of 30.6 acre area. The college has a large infrastructure divided in four blocks with adequate number of class rooms, laboratories, offices and hostel. To keep pace with academic advancement and growth, new rooms and laboratories have been constructed through RUSA. The college has provided Internet facility with Wi-Fi, separate department rooms and laboratories with adequate facilities to all the departments. Ramps have been constructed for differently able students. The college has a Auditorium having capacity of 300 students and a Conference Hall for meeting and other activities. The college has a central library with more than 42000 books and 8000 reference books. The library is well equipped with internet facility and INFLIBNET. The college caters to the needs of its male students by providing hostel facility. Sports facilities like indoor/outdoor play grounds and gymnasium are also available in the college.

    Following the Rule & Regulations / Guidelines and directions provided by MHRD/ UGC and The department of Higher Education, Govt. of Chhattisgarh as well as affiliated University, the college governs all academic and examination activities through various committees headed by the Principal..
